Where Growth Happens

What is Fear?

Children know no fear until we show it to them; YOU knew nothing of fear until it was taught to you. It is only as we are taught that we learn to be afraid. I’d like you to clear your mind of any negative thoughts that may be thriving in your mind regarding the notion of fear.  Going forward this will be the only way that you will be truly able to completely comprehend the words that I write. True self evaluation/reflection can not happen any other way. Any residual energy based in negative formalities will prevent you from becoming the conqueror that you desire to be.

Now; I want you to think about that opening statement that I made about children; about yourself. At one point in time; maybe fifty years ago, maybe ten or maybe somewhere in-between you too were a child. You were innocent and being watched over by parents, grandparents or someone who were your quote unquote “protector”.

You were also a  child that would climb the highest tree, you were a child that would walk into the woods with no other thoughts other than the mission at hand; finding the hidden treasure.  You were a child that thought of ideas and drew them, talked of actions and did them. If it didn’t come out the way that you planned you would try it all over again or simply be happy that it came out at all.  When you were a child you knew nothing of fear, failure and the unknown; you only knew to try because it seemed like the only logical thing to do. You were not fearful you were innocently courageous.

At some point in your life this all  began to change. You no longer tried things just to try them, you no longer approached people that look different than you, you stopped climbing high.  You began to fear, you began to be afraid, you began to be afraid of the unknown, you began to be afraid of  pure love.  The question that I ask you is this. Was the fear learned or taught to you? As a child did you know that you could fall and injure yourself or did your parents, family or friend explain it to you? When do you remember the first time that you began being afraid of anything? What was it that made you afraid and did you know that you were afraid?

When a child falls down or hits his or her head for the first time; does the child start to cry because of what happened or does the child start to cry because of what the reaction is of the people around him or her?  Think about this; everything that you have learned in life has either been learned by you or taught by others. EVERYTHING. There is no other way to learn, there is no other way to grow. We must learn from something or someone in order to create what we call our “personalities, characteristics and beliefs”. In order to define who we are we must be taught something. Hopefully later in your adult life you evaluate all that has been taught to you  in order to find truth for you.

So, what is fear and is it real? Let me help you some by telling you that fear is already in you. That’s right; it is embedded in your dna code. You see; fear is not a bad trait to have but its meant to be used in a survivor mode not in the way that you allow it to paralyze you mentally and  spiritually. We will explore later on in part 2  whether or not you are allowing fear to paralyze your life.  Until then though; you need to learn(see you’re being taught) that fear for all its worth is simply a means to identify or recognize a danger that urges you to confront the fear or flee from the fear. Fear is your body’s way to survive from danger that threatens your life. So when I say it is part of your DNA I mean that on a subconscious level.

This type of fear exist in us all and it is the instinctive reactions that allows us to survive. It’s important to note that any type of any other fear that you have in your life was brought into your life by fear conditioning. Those who research the topic of fear will tell you that Government’s have been using Fear base tactics for generations on people. They play on that fear.  It is a known fact that if you can keep someone in fear you can count on them to do what they say or to believe what they say. The person conditioning you can control you. Fear is powerful and it is often disguised as  a way to keep you safe. Think about the “terror alert colors” that home land security use to announce after 9-11. If it was so important why do we no longer hear  about them? Do we not need to be as protected and aware?

Maybe we are safer? Maybe it’s evolved but the point is we no longer hear about these “threat levels”. Which in my opinion is a great thing but fear does evolves and it will be back, so always be aware of the fear conditioning that exist in your circle and communities. Another quick example of how fear is used. Before religions  there wasn’t a belief of hell per se. People generally believed in God’s and of a better place but not of a place of damnation. It is the fear of going to hell (a place where you shall forever burn) that helps keep people striving towards Heaven. Whether hell exist or not doesn’t matter, the fear of it has become real for believers.

I want you to be aware of fear but not afraid of fear. I want to teach you to understand it not be confused by it. I want to teach you to overcome come it, not be consumed by it. Fear of fear is keeping you from doing what you need in your life.

I’m encouraging you to get back to a childhood mentality where you weren’t scared of doing the unknown. In the past  I found myself not ever doing what I told myself I wanted to do in regards to my life path. I was all talk and no action. I longed to do so much more than I was doing with my life but my fear of success was very real in my life.  In all honesty I began a second book because I had just finished writing in my online journal with my best friend. In the journal I stated that I know that I want to write more books because I enjoyed writing very much but I found myself not writing at all just because I wanted to work as many jobs as I could just to pay the bills, to get a career started.

After writing those words I realized how disgusted I was with myself and I went to my room began writing another book. I realized that its easy to make excuses and hard to follow dreams and if any of you will read my first book The Unbelievable Truth when it comes out then you know how I feel about following dreams. It has to be done and you can’t allow the fear that you learned to control your life. A fearful life is a life that is non-living. You were meant to LIVE!

You never really feared but look in the mirror and now you do! What is it going to take for you to get back to being the courageous being that you are? Its not going to be easy to break the bad habit fears that you have had years to develop.  With hard work though and with putting a solid plan forward you can begin to eliminate the fear from your life and be the opposite of what fear is and that’s courageous. Maybe you know this or maybe you don’t but if you are trying to live your life as a positive spiritual being then Fear is a trait that you should not have nor want.

Fear begins unconsciously and as we age we transform that form in to emotion and most of us have not trained ourselves to not allow our emotions to control our actions and thoughts. What is worse is the fact that unaware fear is a negative emotion and if you are striving to be positive then keeping the level of fear in your life that I’m talking about is preventing you from being completely fulfilled; completely positive. If you truly desire the power of controlling fear then its time that you get in touch with the child within yourself.

Your inner child is still part of you, it still exist within yourself ready to be released. Obviously I’m not telling you to act childish in mature situations but I am telling you that the fearless child that you were needs to come back. As you began to get older someone in your life and quite possibly yourself began to teach you to fear many things. To fear God, to fear ghost, to fear them, to fear bill collectors and to fear your potential. It is only because of the lack of knowledge do we then take that little bit of fear and apply it to other aspects of our life; in which fear should not be.

What would be different in your life if you didn’t know fear?

So again I ask at what point in your life did you begin to fear heights, bugs, people and more importantly success? You weren’t created to be fearful even though some people believe that you should; you were created to be courageous in all things that you do in life.

Paulo Coelo said “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”  This is one of truest statements you can know about your dreams and it can be applied to every aspect of your life.

What would be different in your life if you broke the chains of fear that currently occupate your mind ?

Would you have more confidence? Would you pursue love? Would you allow others to read your journal entries/blog entries? Would you be out of poverty? Would you have a better job?  Think about all the things that YOU HAVE NOT done all because of the fear of failure or rejection.

Will Smith said it best in his movie After Earth “Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create. Do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real. But fear is a choice.”  Later on in that movie he reiterated it again “Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity. Do not misunderstand me danger is very real but fear is a choice.”

Think about all these words in this entry and change your life and you don’t have to take my word for it..take the word of the Highest paid actor in hollywood who grew up in some of the hardest streets in Philadelphia.

Fear is not real but the danger is believing that it doesn’t exist in your lives…..break free.
